With Spring (coming soon, we believe) comes new hope that the Forum still lives, despite the many vicissitudes that have befallen this fragile organization.
Forced to move twice in the last year, we are now (permanently, we hope) ensconced at the scene of so many a cold evening out there, The Schindler House, 835 North Kings Road, West Hollywood, CA 90069. Call us anytime at 213 852 7145 – our machine will be there. We have also been turned down by every level of government (city, county, state and federal) for grants.
We might try UNESCO next.
Other than Fred Fisher, Barton Myers, and Thom Mayne (to whom we express our gratitude) corporate and beyond-the-call-of-duty donations have dried up. And yet we are alive and well. The “Out There Doing It” book, re-titled “New Experimental Architecture in Los Angeles” (so you come up with a better one that uses the words “new”, “architecture” and “Los Angeles”), should be out this summer. By the time you read this, you should have received Forum Pamphlet #6, “Architecture Information.”
Because of his prompt production of this publication (and his complete commitment to the Forum publications program in general), Douglas MacLeod has been asked to join the Board of the Forum, along with Kris Miller.
