The Los Angeles Forum for Architecture and Urban Design presents Out There Doing It 2012: Forge, Forage, Fabricate. The Fall 2012 edition of the LA Forum’s Out There Doing It lecture series features practitioners whose work defies the schism between the physical and virtual. By bringing together computation design and material research they refuse to privilege the authenticity of either end of the spectrum. Instead of operating within fixed aesthetics and conceptual modes, these designers forge new processes and relationships. They are not content to use digital tools only for the modeling, representation, or fabrication of discrete physical objects. Through a willingness to deal with the specific limitations and possibilities of tools and materials and a dedicated commitment to production, these participants are actively reexamining craftsmanship in a digital era.
