Bernard Tschumi: Totally Generic

SCI-Arc W.M. Keck Lecture Hall : Tschumi’s work has been widely exhibited, with solo exhibitions at The Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Venice Biennale. He served as Dean of the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation at Columbia University in New York from 1988 to 2003.

Coy Howard – From Hand to Mouse, From Furniture to Architecture
SCI-Arc Gallery: A two-part exhibition by SCI-Arc long-time faculty member Coy Howard will be presented in the SCI-Arc Gallery at the Southern California Institute of Architecture this fall.  The exhibition comprises 50 images of three of Howard’s speculative architectural projects and a selection of furniture designs that investigate formal inventiveness and individual artistic vision.

MAK Architecture Tour 2010
The MAK Center’s 2010 architecture tour celebrates the life of Julius Shulman, who would havebeen 100 years old on 10/10/10. Sites include the Lovell Health House (R. J. Neutra, 1929), the Gold House (R. M. Schindler, 1945), the Kun House (R. J. Neutra, 1936), the Hillside House (Carl Louis Maston, 1948), Shulman House (Raphael Soriano, 1950), and the Gantert House (Pierre Koenig, 1981). The MAK Tour is the annual fundraiser for the MAK Center for Art and Architecture at the Schindler House.

Geoff Manaugh: Quadraturin and Other Architectural Expansionary Tales
SCI-Arc W.M. Keck Lecture Hall : Geoff Manaugh is the author of BLDGBLOG and The BLDGBLOG Book, former senior editor of Dwell magazine, and a contributing editor at Wired UK. Along with Nicola Twilley, he organized and co-curated the “Landscapes of Quarantine” design studio and exhibition at New York’s Storefront for Art and Architecture in 2009/2010, and he is currently curating a 2011 exhibition for the Nevada Museum of Art called “Landscape Futures.”

Los Angeles Cleantech Corridor and Green District Competition
The Southern California Institute of Architecture and The Architect’s Newspaper launched the Los Angeles Cleantech Corridor and Green District Competition. The competition asks all interested parties to create an innovative urban vision for Los Angeles’ Cleantech Corridor, a several-mile-long development zone on the eastern edge of downtown LA. The competition, which offers more than $11,000 in prize money, is presented with the Office of the Mayor of Los Angeles and the CRA/LA, which established the Cleantech Corridor. It asks entrants to move beyond industrial uses – creating an integrated economic, residential, clean energy, and cultural engine for the city through architectural and urban strategies.
Submission/Registration Deadline: September 30th

AIA/LA 2010 DESIGN AWARDS EXHIBITION
Join A+D and AIA/LA in celebrating the work of Los Angeles architects. This annual exhibit showcases submissions for the 2010 Design Awards (built projects) and NEXT LA Awards (unbuilt projects), projects commissioned by the City of Los Angeles (Cultural Affairs Commission, CAC, Awards) and green projects (Architectural Foundation Los Angeles, AFLA).
Award will be announced and celebrated at the AIA/LA Awards Party presented by Italian Living|Umbria on Wednesday, October 27 at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
