On the Map 2010:  HABITATION
Second Event –  Rehabilitation of Rudolph Schindler’s Bubeshko Apartment Building, by DSH

The restoration of Rudolph Schindler’s Bubeshko Apartments of 1938-41, one of the few realized and intact multi-family dwellings by this significant Los Angeles architect, focused on the project’s DNA: generative ideas, theories of spatial configuration, and employment of color and material. The work involved probing history, rehabilitating the way in which materials combine with characteristic colors to produce the spatial effects unique to Schindler’s architecture.
