Subject: A tribute to John Chase in December issue of arcCA – a call for participation
A letter from Annie Chu:
Dear friends and colleagues of John Chase,
Like you, I was shocked and saddened by the passing of John this Summer.
I have been looking for an opportunity for all of us to pay tribute to John and his legacy and have recently come upon an idea I would like to share with you. PLEASE READ ON.
John has been an ardent supporter and contributor of the journal arcCA, and has served for 5-1/2 years as an editorial board member up until his passing. He was a huge force behind the robust improvements to the journal many of you may have witnessed in the last few years. I saw John at the arcCA board meeting only about two weeks before his passing. As the 2010 Chair of the board, he was strongly advocating to sustain and strengthen arcCA – the insightful journal for architects and AIA members in California.
The arcCA editorial board will be dedicating the last issue of this year to John Chase. I thought it would be fitting to include a tribute page from all his friends and fans. A 40% discounted price for a two page spread has been offered by McGraw Hill , the publisher.
That is $4,000. Graphic designer Lorna Turner has graciously volunteered her design work for the page promising color combinations that would have delighted John. Tim Culvahouse, Editor of arcCA, has curated and secured permission to use a poem by Louis MacNeice for the tribute as well.
Will you join me to contribute funds to realize this tribute to John?
We will greatly appreciate a suggested donation of $100 and more or less as you are able to.
Reply to this email (email@example.com) with your acknowledgement and amount.
Make the check out to McGraw Hill.
Mail out your check to my office address before November 24th:

It will be great to add yours to the explosion of names on the double page as a testimony of the support for John from all of us.
Should we collect funds in excess of the $4,000 needed for the double page tribute, we will earmark that as a donation to support arcCA in John’s name.
