Unfinished Business: Panel Discussions

Please join the LA Forum on Saturday afternoon, July 14th for two panel discussions in conjunction with our UNFINISHED BUSINESS retrospective exhibition. The opening night reception for the exhibition follows immediately after the discussions.
Panel 1: Publishing as Practice
July 14, 2012 at 2 pm
During its 25 year history, the Forum has generated an astonishing amount of intellectual content through its newsletters, pamphlets, and member-generated books. These publications, which range from well-researched scholarly treatises, urban marginalia, and industry gossip, allude to a body of work that is both a critical thesis of, and a love letter to, Los Angeles’ late-Twentieth Century architectural evolution. The panel will explore and discuss the various topics and manifestations of content delivery which have surfaced during the Forum’s history through its diverse array of publications and programming.

Panel 2: Unfinished Business
July 14, 2012 at 4 pm
Bringing together Forum founders, board members, and LA influencers, this panel is not content to simply unpack the archive. Instead, it goes straight to the provocations, interrogating present (and future) condition of Los Angeles as a city and as a place of architectural production and discourse. The discussion will be preceded by a partial reading of “Swimming to Suburbia” by Craig Hodgetts, a lecture originally given through the Forum 25 years ago, and the Forum’s first newsletter/publication.
