On Wednesday, June 20th from 7-9PM, the LA Forum is hosting a book launch and panel discussion with Herwig Baumgartner and Scott Uriu for their new monograph B+U (volume 12 in the Design Peak series from Equal Books) at the Vitra Showroom in Culver City. B+U is a comprehensive monograph on B+U’s oeuvre and a complete overview of 10 years of innovative architecture.  In addition to architects Herwig Baumgartner and Scott Uriu, panelists for the discussion include Stephen Phillips (Director of the Cal Poly Los Angeles Metro Program in Architecture and Urban Design), Dora Epstein Jones,  (theorist and SCI-Arc professor), and Sam Lubell (West Coast editor of The Architects Newspaper).

The monograph on B+U includes an introduction by architecture critic Stephen Phillips and articles about the firm.  B+U’s work ranges from conceptual projects utilizing sound as a generator for geometry and space, urban utopias imagining what our cities will look like in the future, up to build work and projects that are currently in development. B+U describes its design process as driven by digital techniques and advanced computation that utilizes new technologies and resources, which are unique to Los Angeles and are a confluence from the movie industry, aerospace engineering, medical technology and manufacturing industries. The projects covered in the monograph include: the Firestone Boulevard office building (Downey, California); the Taipei Performing Arts Center; the Tall Emblem Structure (Dubai, UAE); Villas for the Royal family (Al Ain, UAE); the Frank/Kim and Cohen residences (Pasadena, California); Sound cloud and Sound City; Sunset Junction (Silver Lake, California); Performing Arts Center (Iserlohn, Germany); NTCArt Museum for contemporary Art (New Taipei City), Taiwan; the Ott Winery (Feuersbrunn, Austria); and City Futura – a utopian urban proposal for the city of Milan, Italy that was featured at the 12th Venice Biennale in 2010.
