Frank Gehry, Holt Hinshaw, Pfau Jones, Charles Moore and Antoine Predock have been selected to compete for a Museum of Science and Industry in Phoenix, Arizona. London’s Blueprint will be coming out in May with an issue, guest edited by Ray Ryan, including 7 or 8 articles about Los Angeles. Morphosis will be the cover story.

The new Dean at Harvard’s GSD is Max Scoggin from Atlanta. At the University of Florida at Gainesville, Bob Segrest was voted out as Dean – presumably for his deconstructivist leanings.

Richard Keating has resigned as Partner in Charge of the Los Angeles office of SOM.

DeBretteville and Polyzoides are working on a new The American Vitruvius: an Architects’ Handbook of Civic Art by Alan Plattus (editor of the 1988 Princeton Architectural Press reissue). Ten people from across the country have been invited to submit ideas by the end of the year, describing how the original subject matter has been transformed. In the meantime, DeBretteville and Polyzoides have finished the Harwood Court Dormitory at Pomona College and have been awarded the commission for two new dormitories at the University of Arizona, in an area for which they recently completed the master plan. Sheila deBretteville is the new head of the Graphic Design program at Yale.

Schindler’s Sachs Apartments, along with many of its past and current residents (Craig Hodgetts, Ming Fung, Emmet and Meg Wemple, Stanley Vallet) will be video taped by John Dale and Rob Corsini for a show in the fall at the Santa Monica Museum of Art (Edgemar) on artistic communities from the 1920s and 1930s.

The San Diego Civic Center competition has been cancelled due to lack of funds.

Renzo Piano and the Newport Harbor Art Museum have parted company. The Museum has invited 30 other architects, including Gruen Associates and DMJM, to compete for the commission.
